About the Experience:

✨ Bioluminescence Season Update ✨

Get ready for a one-of-a-kind adventure through the glowing waters of the Indian River Lagoon, just 45 minutes from Orlando!

The lagoon is home to two incredible forms of natural bioluminescence — and throughout the year, the experience shifts with the seasons.

What You’ll See on the Water

Comb Jellies (Winter Bio) – gentle, non-stinging drifters that shimmer with rainbow-like light as they move

Dinoflagellates (Summer Bio) – microscopic plankton that flash electric blue like underwater fireflies when disturbed

📅 Seasonal Glow Guide

May – October: Dinoflagellate Summer Season (bright blue, spark-like glow)

October – April: Comb Jelly Winter Season (larger, rainbow-shimmering jellies)

April – May: Spring Transition — jellies taper off while dinoflagellates begin to build

Mid October – Mid November: Fall Transition — dinoflagellates fade as comb jellies return

🌗 What to Expect During Transition Seasons

During transition periods, conditions can vary night to night depending on weather, temperature, rainfall, and water conditions.

Some evenings may feature more jellies, others may start to show the first flashes of dinoflagellates — and occasionally, you may experience both in a single tour, things are shifting and more variable, however if no glow is seen we offer additional discounts on future tours.

It’s a dynamic, ever-changing experience — and one of the most unique times to explore the lagoon.

💡 Enhanced Viewing with Nocqua Lights

We’re fully equipped with Nocqua Light Enhancements during transition seasons and winter bio to not only enhance your glowing expirence but help find the jellies with these eco-friendly underwater LEDs that gently illuminate the water beneath your board.

These lights help highlight every swirl, shimmer, and passing jelly — without disrupting the natural environment — ensuring an incredible experience no matter the conditions.

Bioluminescent dinoflagellates are one of nature’s rarest and most extraordinary wonders, found in only a handful of places across the globe. These tiny, single-celled organisms create a magical display by producing a bright blue flash of light when disturbed—like underwater fireflies lighting up the night.

The best part? You don’t have to travel to some far-off island to experience this phenomenon. Right here in the Indian River Lagoon, just minutes from Orlando, we have the perfect conditions for this natural light show to thrive.

Join us after dark for an adventure where the waters come alive beneath your paddle. As you glide through the calm lagoon, you might spot playful dolphins darting through the glow, see schools of fish streaking silver-blue trails, or simply float beneath the stars while the water sparkles all around you.

This is Florida like you’ve never seen it—wild, magical, and unforgettable.

Our guided tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes along an easy paddle route, great for both beginners and seasoned paddlers. Tours depart nightly.

We take care of the capturing it.

A Note about Bio

Our photos are captured under the best possible conditions using professional low-light equipment and long-exposure techniques — something we’ve spent years refining to showcase bioluminescence at its absolute brightest.

That said, this is a natural phenomenon, and like all things in nature, brightness and visibility can vary from night to night and may appear more subtle to the human eye than what’s shown in photos.

We strongly encourage guests to review the season they are booking, as bioluminescence changes throughout the year and conditions can vary nightly. While we provide the equipment, guidance, and expertise to give you the best possible experience, nature ultimately determines what we see.

What we do guarantee is a fun, safe, and engaging tour led by friendly, knowledgeable guides — and by the end of your experience, you’ll leave knowing the lagoon like a local.

We intentionally price our tours to offer strong value — with more time on the water, smaller group sizes, and included photos — because we genuinely care about what we do and about sharing the ecology of the lagoon. Our goal is not just a one-time experience, but to create something you’ll want to come back to, whether to bring friends or see the lagoon under different conditions.

If bioluminescence is not present or appears significantly below expectations, we offer a Bioluminescence Guarantee, providing discounted return tours under more favorable conditions. Discount amounts may vary based on the specific conditions of your tour.
