Bioluminescent dinoflagellates are one of nature’s rarest and most extraordinary wonders, found in only a handful of places across the globe. These tiny, single-celled organisms create a magical display by producing a bright blue flash of light when disturbed—like underwater fireflies lighting up the night.
The best part? You don’t have to travel to some far-off island to experience this phenomenon. Right here in the Indian River Lagoon, just minutes from Orlando, we have the perfect conditions for this natural light show to thrive.
Join us after dark for an adventure where the waters come alive beneath your paddle. As you glide through the calm lagoon, you might spot playful dolphins darting through the glow, see schools of fish streaking silver-blue trails, or simply float beneath the stars while the water sparkles all around you.

It comes down to preference. No Moon Cycle is worse than the other, however each cycle provides a different experience.
FULL MOON NIGHTS. You can still see the Dinoflagellates glow, but the moonlight allows better visibility to the overall surroundings. You may see a nesting Herron, the outline of a sleeping manatee, or our crowd favorite the Bottle Nose Dolphins. There is a feeling that elevates, yet grounds you, as you are guided by the gentle light of the moon on a warm summer night, filled with the fresh scent of the ocean all around you.
NEW MOON NIGHTS. The nights on and surrounding the New Moon tend to book up in advance and usually sell out. New Moons provide the darkest sky and allow you to really see the Glow. On nights when the dinoflagellates glow exceptionally bright, you can see microorganisms that wouldn’t show up to the naked eye. All in all you can not go wrong going on any phase of the moon cycle.
